When to call 999 – emergencies
Call 999 or attend A&E for life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, severe breathing problems, signs of stroke, severe bleeding, or loss of consciousness.
NHS 111 – urgent help that is not an emergency
Use NHS 111 online or call 111 for urgent medical advice when it is not a 999 emergency.
Local urgent care providers
For many urgent issues, local urgent treatment and community services may be more appropriate than A&E.
Pharmacy help (including out of hours)
Many illnesses and minor conditions can be managed through your pharmacy, including advice for minor rashes, bites, minor injuries, and contraception support.
Please check Local NHS Services for local pharmacy and community options, including out-of-hours support.
Out of hours
When the practice is closed, use NHS 111 for urgent guidance and next steps.
