Organ donation

You have a choice about organ donation

In England, adults are now presumed to consent to organ donation unless they opt out or fall into excluded categories. This “opt out” system still preserves individual choice.

The NHS Blood and Transplant clarifies: “Your family would always be involved before donation takes place, so it is really important that you choose whether you want to be a donor and discuss what you want to happen with your family.”

Even those wishing to opt in should register their decision and inform family members.
