Some hospitals and clinics may ask patients to have their blood tests done at their GP surgery rather than at their own facilities.
We can help facilitate these tests under certain conditions. At our practice, we do not order results to forward them on to external clinicians. The correct procedures for these types of request are detailed on this page.
About our phlebotomy services
- We offer blood test clinics at both of our surgeries.
- Our couriers transport pathology specimens, including blood samples, to Wexham Park Hospital (laboratory services are provided by Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services) at around 4 PM.
- If you need to drop off a sample after 4 PM, please take it directly to the pathology department at Wexham Park Hospital to avoid delays.
For NHS Clinicians at other NHS Organisations Requesting Blood Tests at Our Surgery
- Please send the pathology request form directly to your patient. Our local lab (BSPS) will use any appropriate form or letter that specifies the tests required
- The patient can then contact our reception to book a blood test appointment.
- The request form does not need to be from Wexham Park Hospital; they accept forms from other NHS hospitals and will forward results accordingly.
- Trust systems that do not allow printed requisition forms: in this situation you should use a Downtime Requisition Form or a document that contains all the necessary information (call the lab to find out more).
- BPSP uses information provided on the form such as full name of requestor, address (physical and email) and perhaps a telephone number to forward the results. If you have not recieved a result in the expected timeframe, please call BSPS directly.
Important Note
Wexham Park Hospital has confirmed that they accept blood samples and other pathology specimens from external NHS hospitals and laboratories and will forward the results to the appropriate department.
For Private Clinicians Requesting Blood Tests at Our Surgery
- Generally, we do not perform blood tests on behalf of your patients.
- However where a patient requires blood test monitoring and the private clinic or hospital is a far distance from the patient’s home, we allow patients to access our phlebotomy service. The patient will need to bring pathology request forms from you to the appointment. Our phlebotomist will forward samples to Wexham Park Hospital as usual.
- Wexham Park Hospital accepts pathology specimens from private hospitals and clinics and will forward the results to the requesting clinician.
What You Need to Do
- Contact Wexham Park Hospital’s biochemistry lab via switchboard for any queries regarding how you will receive the results, and how they will charge their fees to your service or lab. We do not have details about private pathology service fees.
- Dispatch the pathology request form to your patient.
- The patient can then contact our reception to book a blood test appointment.
