Overview
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives members of the public the right to request information from public authorities. It also requires public authorities to publish certain information proactively through a publication scheme.
Please note: the Act does not give people access to their own personal data such as their health records. For personal information, submit a data protection subject access request instead.

The Information Commissioner’s Office provides detailed guidance on accessing information from public bodies, including step-by-step instructions covering pre-request considerations, legal requirements, request procedures, timescales, and complaint processes.
